One of the true last muscle cars, the '71 Olds 4-4-2 W-30 was representative of things to come. The year 1971 ushered in new federal regulations decreeing that all new models had to run on unleaded fuel. In order to comply, manufactures drastically lowered compression ratios which, in turn, reduced horsepower. For the 442, 1971 also marked the last year that it would exist as a separate model.
